Decades and generations may come and go but one thing has not changed in the Clerides household: the focus on how to serve and look after customers’ needs. The belief that the customer should be treated as a welcomed guest is paramount. Father to son, the conversation continues to this day on how to continually improve customer service and deliver great wine every time.
A fixture on the Vancouver wine scene for over 25 years, John was the first person to open British Columbia’s first independently owned and operated wine shop in 1986. Without even knowing it and long before it became fashionable John was a champion of promoting small family estates and sustainable farming practices. He has traveled extensively throughout California, Washington Oregon, Australia, Austria, Italy, Bordeaux, burgundy Chablis, Languedoc Rhone Valley, Alsace and of course, BC. Now approaching his 30th year in the wine business, his enthusiasm and energy is unsurpassed.
Son of a chef and the grandson of a maître d’, John grew up with an insider’s appreciation of fine foods and wine. He holds an Advanced Wine Certificate from the European-based Luxury Forte Hotels, as well certification with the International Sommelier Guild. Approachable and professional, John has been called on to personally serve Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, as well as prime ministers, presidents, provincial premiers, entertainers and major sports celebrities. John and his team are excited to partner with the Marquis Wine Club to bring an additional dimension of benefits and experiences to the club.
While acknowledging that love stands as the only true defence against the abyss of our meaningless existence, Jesse Richmond would like to emphasize that wine serves as a more-than-passable proxy. For his own part, Jesse turned to the bottle (selling it, that is) in February of 2013 after a dozen years spent staring over the precipice in academia, during which he earned his PhD in History. Happily, his research took him to several of the globe’s premier wine producing regions, including California, France and South Africa. Jesse has completed the Wine & Spirit Education Trust Level III Advanced Certificate.
