2010 Cantele Salice Salento Riserva
- Salice Salento DOC, Sicily
- Bottle size
- 750 mL
This 100% Negroamaro wine has been sold at Marquis for several years, and it is just plain delicious! I had to include it in the wine club at some point, just because it's so good.
Cantele is a family run winery situated in Salento, where they produce 2 million bottles annually, including indigenous Pugliese grapes like Primitivo and Negroamaro as well as international varieties such as Chardonnay, Merlot and Syrah.
The Salice Salento Riserva is aged in 1 and 2-year-old barriques for approximately 6 months prior to release. It is ready to drink now but can be aged for up to 5 years.
Streaks of garnet giving way to intense ruby red.
Candied fruits and spices that evolve into clean underbrush, tea, and amber notes.
Enhanced by notes of red flowers, the aromas return on the palate transported by confident but not overbearing alcohol. The tannins and fresh acidity work in counterpoint to create a balanced, soft wine.
- Food Pairing
Roast veal and beef, game, lamb, and ripe aged cheeses.
